Military Leave

As many of you know, there has been an issue for some time now with the law that governs paid time off for armed forces related leave and maintaining seniority and the accrual of paid sick, personal and vacation time during such leave. 

The current law states that paid leave would be provided “not exceeding 34 days in any state fiscal year and not exceeding 17 days in any federal fiscal year.”

The good news is you don’t have to spend any time trying to figure out what the above language means because we were able to fix it and expand the benefit. 

Final Tentative Agreement for Unit 2

Hello Everyone,

Attached is the fully integrated and executed tentative agreement.  Please feel free to review and share w members, we are now going to work on putting the summary sheet/flyer together so that it may be mailed out to the members.  This flyer will also include the voting date/times/locations as well as the Agency Fee notice that is required to be sent out as well.

11th Annual AFSCME Council 93 Memorial Scholarship Golf tournament

I am excited to announce the plans for this year’s AFSCME Council 93 Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament! 

As you may know, we are going into our 11th year. Last year, due largely in part to your generosity, we were able to raise over $36,000, which is the largest amount of money we have raised in a single year, since the scholarship golf tournament's inception 11 years ago.

Justice department ends prison privatization

have some great news to share with you today: The Department of Justice just announced it will end its use of private prisons after a critical report showed these for-profit facilities don’t provide the safety and rehabilitation our communities deserve.

Paul Sinkiewicz Legislative Sick Leave Bank

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

 

I am writing to you all to ask that you please help out a fellow union brother, co-worker and friend Paul Sinkiewicz.  The union especially AFSCME Council 93 Jim Dukin help facilitate a sick leave bank for Paul for those of you who do not know Paul he has worked at DYS for more than 20 years as a Group worker and currently a Transportation Officer  Just last year Paul brought his first home.

URGENT: Legislative Action Needed

Dear AFSCME Members:

Immediate action is needed by AFSCME state workers to stop a significant increase in GIC healthcare contribution rates and cuts to our sick leave benefits.  

Governor Baker has used his veto power to strike language in the FY2017 budget that maintains current contribution rates for all state employees.

Unless state legislators override this veto, all state workers will be paying 25% of GIC premium costs. 

Currently, workers hired prior to July 1, 2003 are paying 20% of premium costs.

Please be advised that the Department of Youth Services has filed the attached Notices of Proposed Amendments of Regulations and Opportunity For Public Comment regarding the following DYS Regulations:

109 CMR 3.00, “Access to All Records of Juveniles Committed to the Department of Youth Services”

109 CMR 4.00, “Classification of Juveniles Committed to the Department of Youth Services”

109 CMR 8.00, “The Granting and Revocation of Conditional Liberty for Juveniles Committed to the Department of Youth Services”

Gov. Charlie Baker: Cap sick leave on top earners, not rank and file

Unions on Wednesday began to push back against Gov. Charlie Baker's proposal to cap public employee sick time, a bill that faces major hurdles to pass before the end of this year's legislative session.

"We believe the Baker administration should begin by focusing on the top earners in the administration before looking at the rank-and-file state employees," said Jim Durkin, director of legislation, political action and communications for AFSCME Council 93.

 

2016 Council 93 Memorial Scholarship Application and Criteria
